Jane's Walk - Calder Heritage

Jane’s Walk is an annual festival of free, community-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs.

Join Jesse to talk heritage in Calder!

The community of Calder is highly valued as a preserved cultural landscape of a true, western railway town. One that developed not under the hands of prescriptive settlement plans of larger, more urban railway towns, but isolated and under the radar of planning frameworks set by the City of Edmonton. The community developed for and by the people: roads do not often connect, commercial buildings are integrated into the residential context in proximity to the railway, and houses that defy land use planning are scattered throughout the neighbourhood.

Dovercourt Infill - Walk & Chat with Jesse

Join me for a walking discussion in Dovercourt as we explore recent zoning changes, development opportunities, and ways to shape the future of our community.

As a city planner with in-depth knowledge of Edmonton’s zoning bylaw, I will guide the conversation on:

  • What’s permitted under the new zoning framework

  • Recent upzoning and its impact on neighborhood growth

  • How to provide input on zoning changes at City Council

  • Opportunities for future amendments to better align with community needs

We’ll also discuss building materials, sustainability, and lifecycle potential, considering how zoning regulations can support high-quality, long-lasting development.

This is a great opportunity for residents, builders, and advocates to engage in meaningful dialogue about the future of Dovercourt. I look forward to the conversation!
